PRE-RESTORED AVAILABLE CD's

For several years now, we have been generously complemented on the audio quality of our CD releases, but at the same time we’ve been repeated asked to speed up the releases of programs from our archive holdings. Many have suggested that they would accept the clicks and pops just to get the material. We think saving these shows in the best possible audio quality is important, but we also understand how you might want to listen to these programs “during your lifetime.”

It takes time to clean up and properly restore these broadcasts from radio’s golden era. Audio Classics® Archive has committed itself to the preservation of these invaluable and historical broadcasts. In general, the term "preservation" refers to the process of gathering the best surviving materials from original ET’s, full and/or half track master magnetic tape recordings and other sources, and transferring them to the most stable format possible. "Restoration" usually refers to even more time-consuming and complicated projects in which altered or missing material is restored to these programs, bringing it as close as possible to its original broadcast form. The removal of clicks, pops, skips, etc. which were not part of the original presentation.

All of the preservation and restoration work done at Audio Classics® Archive is the result of hours of painstaking hard work, and sometimes in collaboration with other experts specializing in preservation. Computers and digital means are increasingly used to improve sound quality in the preservation process, but we do not use the “de-clicking” and “de-hissing” functions of some software programs. Many of the restoration steps taken here are time consuming manual steps. Hundreds and sometimes thousands of individual steps per broadcasts must be performed. Because of these time consuming steps the release of restored and clean sounding shows is slower than we would like.

As a result, we are now offering the following pre-restored broadcasts. These shows have been transferred from their original sources and may contain clicks and pops and maybe every now and then a minor skip. The programs are available by requesting the CD number listed with them which will be the same CD number after restoration is complete. As each of these programs are restored, they will be removed from this listing and thereafter only offered in their restored form in our regular index to programs area. The cost of each of the following CD’s for these pre-restored programs is $5.00 per CD, plus $6.00 per order for shipping and handling. Thousands of programs have already been transferred into digital form and these pre-restoration listings will be added to as time permits. Continue to check back for additions to this listing.

We will continue the restoration process, but correctly and with attention to the details that each broadcasts requires. To do this correctly, takes time.
